Heavy rain watch lifted for Wairoa, roads reopen

MetService cancelled the watch at 6am. State Highway 2 is open in both directions.

The heavy rain watch covering Wairoa and northern Hawke's Bay was lifted at 6am on Friday.

State Highway 2 north of Wairoa reopened shortly afterwards following an overnight slip clearance. Waka Kotahi advises drivers to expect a reduced speed limit past the site.

Rainfall totals reached 118mm in the Waikaremoana headwaters overnight.
