More than ninety volunteers turned out on Saturday to plant 4,000 natives along the Tūtaekurī stopbank above Taradale.
The planting completes a restoration begun in 2023, and was organised by the regional council with three local schools.
What went in
Mostly flax, cabbage tree and mānuka, chosen for root structure rather than appearance — the bank's job is to hold.
Organisers say a final maintenance round is planned for spring.
